Volunteers

Like most nonprofit conservation organizations, HeadWaters has more to do than we will ever get done!
We are always looking for individuals who love our beautiful northwoods and have some spare time that they would like to invest in helping to protect them.  Whether you have an afternoon or a month, we would like to talk to you about your interests and our current needs.
If the idea of volunteering at HeadWaters interests you,  please complete and submit the form at the bottom of this page and someone will contact you shortly!

Volunteer Land Monitors

Do you love the outdoors, have generally good health, and enjoy travelling around north eastern lower Michigan?  If you can answer "Yes" to all of these questions we may have an opportunity for you!

HeadWaters Land Conservancy is seeking volunteers to monitor protected properties.  Volunteer Monitors must have a love for Northern Michigan and in interest in preserving this precious region.  Experience in land conservation is helpful but not necessary.  All volunteers will be trained by staff and will be responsible for the annual monitoring of properties that the Conservancy has protected.  If you would like the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping to conserve the "Up North" we all love, then please contact our  office.

If you like meeting new people and enjoy helping others we have opportunities for you to help the Conservancy in several key roles.  Administrative Volunteers  assist in a number of jobs including:

  • Attending festivals and events throughout NE Michigan with the HWLC display, answering questions and educating people about HeadWaters' mission and work.
  • Speaking on the Conservancy's behalf at organizational meetings.
  • Clipping and archiving articles from the media
  • Answering phones, filing, and general office help
  • Distributing newsletters, posters and flyers for events
  • Restocking brochures at libraries and local businesses
  • Running errands
  • Assisting with mailings

If you are interested in assisting HWLC staff as an Administrative Volunteer, please contact our office.

Volunteer Reporters for Our Newsletter

If you are a skilled writer who would enjoy meeting and interviewing our conservation partners and writing a brief article for "Currents," our quarterly newsletter, we would love to talk to you.  We will need to see some samples of your writing, and you will need to have reliable transportation for driving around NE Michigan.  You can work near your home or throughout the region, as you please.

Call the office if you are interested!

HWLC also has relationships with volunteer organizations such as the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Otsego County and the Volunteer Center of Otsego County.
